Woodpeckers, a brand established in 1988, has always focused on producing high-quality woodworking tools. Starting with a few routers, the company has grown into a full-fledged manufacturer of various tools, including router lifts, router fences, measuring and layout tools, and a range of useful clamping accessories. Proudly, Woodpeckers does its own machining, engraving, assembly, and packing, ensuring that their tools are truly made in the U.S.A.
The combination square, invented in 1878, has been copied numerous times over the past 140 years. However, Woodpeckers' product development team aimed to improve upon this classic tool. They integrated features into their in-DEXABLE Combination Squares that are not found in any other combination square, regardless of price. These features include laser-accurate scribing guides, positive indexing at every full inch, a sliding head support, and precise, laser-engraved scales.
The in-DEXABLE system also includes a Double Square head and the recently added Centering Head and Protractor Head, all featuring the same precise full-inch indexing capabilities.
The scribing guides on the in-DEXABLE Combination Squares are laser-cut on 1/16-inch centers, perfectly sized and shaped to guide any marking device parallel to the edge of the workpiece. The round holes in the center of the blade index the heads to the closest full inch, providing an accurate starting point. The scales are laser-engraved to an accuracy of ± 0.004 inches, with 1/16-inch graduations on one edge and 1/32-inch on the other. Metric versions are also available, with 1mm graduations and heads that lock every 30mm.
The Combination Square head provides the two most important angles in woodworking – 90 degrees and 45 degrees – in a single, convenient tool. Woodpeckers added a sliding tab to support the head when it's hanging off the edge of the workpiece.
The Double Square head is more compact and suitable for tasks not involving miters. It also features the sliding tab for edge support.
The Protractor Head allows for the layout of angles other than 45 degrees. With a smooth-turning protractor adjustable between 0 and 90 degrees, both right and left, and positive stops for standard angles, this head is a valuable addition to any workshop. When locked square, it can be used as a handy T-square with built-in scribing guides.
The Centering Head holds the blade at a 45-degree angle relative to machined 90-degree surfaces, making it easy to locate the center of square or round stock.
Woodpeckers offers a range of blade sizes, from 4-inch mini to 18-inch standard, with corresponding head sizes. Metric versions are also available. Users can build their own in-DEXABLE set by purchasing individual components, ensuring compatibility between blades and heads.
