Shop / woodpeckers center gauge
Woodpeckers was established in 1988, with a focus on providing high-quality woodworking tools. Starting with a few routers, the company has evolved into a full-fledged manufacturer of router lifts, router fences, measuring and layout tools, and a variety of useful clamping accessories. Woodpeckers takes pride in the fact that their tools are entirely made in the USA, as they handle the machining, engraving, assembly, and packing processes in-house.
The in-DEXABLE Combination Squares from Woodpeckers represent a significant improvement on the traditional combination square, which was first invented in 1878. Woodpeckers' product development team aimed to create a "me-too" product, but instead, they incorporated several features that set their combination squares apart from the competition.
One standout feature is the laser-accurate scribing guides, which are spaced at 1/16-inch intervals and designed to guide any marking device perfectly parallel to the edge of the workpiece. To provide an accurate starting point for the scribing guides, the round holes in the center of the blade index the heads to the closest full inch. The laser-engraved scales offer an accuracy of ±.004 inches, with 1/16-inch graduations on one edge and 1/32-inch graduations on the other. Metric versions of the in-DEXABLE Combination Squares are also available, featuring 1mm graduations and heads that lock every 30mm.
The combination square head provides the two most important angles in woodworking: 90 degrees and 45 degrees. Woodpeckers has added a sliding tab to the classic design, supporting the head when it's hanging off the edge of the workpiece. The Double Square head is more compact than the Combination Square head and offers greater convenience when dealing with angles other than miters, also featuring the sliding tab for edge support.
For projects requiring angles other than 45 degrees, the new in-DEXABLE Protractor head is a valuable addition. The smooth-turning protractor can be adjusted to any angle between 0 and 90 degrees, both right and left, with an alignment pin that indexes to the edge of the blade for fast, accurate registration of standard angles (22.5°, 45°, 67.5°, and 90°). The laser-engraved scale allows for easy setting of any other angle, and the two large locking knobs, combined with an 8-inch long reference edge, provide confidence in the angle layout.
The Centering Head is designed to quickly and accurately locate the center of square or round stock by holding the blade at a 45-degree angle relative to the machined 90-degree surfaces. Marking the two diagonals of a square locates the center, and finding the center of a circle is even easier - simply hold the Centering Head against the circle in two different spots and strike a line across the diameter.
Woodpeckers offers a wide range of individual components, allowing users to customize their in-DEXABLE sets with different blade sizes and head types, ensuring the perfect tool for their woodworking needs.
